This is the first batch I’ve scanned of my Kingston’s Boston cartoon that appeared weekly in Boston’s The Real Paper. An alternative paper with a very large circulation in a city that include about 500,000 college students. The cartoon started in late 1976 or ‘77. I can’t remember I was either high or drunk. Different times.
I focused on what made Boston so unique at the time. An overlay of social changes, oddities, real life observations with some good old local politics.Names like Dulls, Kevin White, Louise Day Hicks an others lost in history.
Boston was changing at light speed in the ‘70s. One week we were all mellow and saying ‘oh wow’ and the next we all had haircuts and snorting powder. New trends came every week. There was always the Red Sox, the Bruins and the Celtics and of course the NY Giants. I was harassed and tortured by the horrible Meter Maids whom I often scorned.
There are upward of 300 of these so it will take a while to scan and annotate all of them. Thanks for you patience.
